Austrian State Prize for European Literature 2016

The  Austrian State Prize for European Literature is one of the prizes I include on the Prizes-links pages here, because even though it is limited to European authors they have an excellent record in selecting very good writers.

They announced the 2016 winner last week, but there doesn’t seem to be any English-language coverage of the news (yet). It’s Andrzej Stasiuk — a writer you might be familiar with if you’ve made it that far in my The Complete Review Guide to Contemporary World Fiction, since of course he rates a mention.

They have a good overview of the author at culture.pl — always a good resource for your Polish literary (and other cultural) information needs — and two of his books are under review at the Complete Review:  Nine and Fado.
